UPDATE: Little Tots was so fantastically fun! Kids and parents alike were having a great time today. Every parent I spoke to was pleased as punch that the Downtown Silver Spring Shopping Center has implemented such a fabulous summer program for kids. Highlights included the performance by Flumpa, the free strawberry parfaits provided at the Whole Foods Silver Spring table, arts and crafts by Pyramid Atlantic, the free class coupon provided by Gymboree Play and Music and the kids meal discounts at so many of the restaurants - details below. 
Starting today and continuing every other Wednesday this summer, the area around the fountain in downtown Silver Spring will be all about kids. The Little Tots Summer Fun series showcases children's entertainment, musical performances, crafts, safety presentations and more.
There are also indoor activities provided by DTSS merchants inside their locations on Little Tot Wednesdays. The Maryland Youth Ballet hosts a mini creative movement session from 10-10:20 for kids aged 2-5 accompanied by an adult inside their dance studio. And there's storytime and sing-a-long at Borders at 10:30 in the children's section.
DTSS restaurants offer special discounts on food on Little Tots Wednesdays:
- Eggspectation: Free kid's meal with the purchase of 1 adult meal.
- Austin Grill: Free ice cream sundae with the purchase of a kid's meal.
- Chick-fil-A: Free 4 piece chicken nugget kid's meal with the purchase of an adult meal.
- zpizza: One free slice of pizza and a kid's drink with the purchase of an adult entree.
- Red Lobster: One free kid's meal with purchase of an adult entree.
- Cakelove: 20% off all small chocolate items.
As you probably know, children are allowed to frolic in the fountain as long as they follow the official rules (humor courtesy of The Silver Spring Penguin). So throw a swim diaper in your bag and I'll you see you at 10:30!
